The hallmark of the award function is to drench the celebrities in green slime, and this year hundreds of celebrities and audience members got the treatment.

The show began with Timberlake's performance on 'You'll never get a drop of slime on old J.T', dressed in a tuxedo and an orange scarf, although by the end of the song, he was completely drenched in the green slime.

Other stars who were drenched in the green goo included Mandy Moore, 'Spiderman' star Tobey Maguire, Steve Carell, Vince Vaughn, Chris Tucker, and Jackie Chan. Even Nicole Kidman got slightly slimed when she came to accept an award on behalf of film director George Miller for the animated movie 'Happy Feet'.

However, Timberlake, the only person to win the show's celebrity burp-off twice, defended his title this year against all 12,000 people in the audience at Pauley Pavilion, who burped simultaneously in a mass burp that sounded like it was augmented by special-effects.

'Blades of Glory' stars Will Ferrell and John Heder, presented the 'Favourite female movie star' award to Charlotte's Web star Dakota Fanning.

There were several other awards in the list. Ben Stiller, took home the night's top honour, the Wannabe Award. Adam Sandler the 'Happy Gilmor' won the 'Favourite male film actor', and American Idol, the 'Favourite TV show'. Idol judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul were on hand to accept the award.

At the end of the show, Timberlake, with the help of Vince Vaughn, used a "detonator" to release a giant surge of green goo that came up through the floor, spraying much of the audience and the actors.
