The president said the 7,000-strong African Union (AU) peacekeepers on the ground in Darfur - a region the size of France - needed to be reinforced by international troops, including Nato. The AU has struggled to stop the violence between the rebels and the government-backed Janjaweed militias in Darfur, where two million people still live displaced in camps.
