Jackson: the U.S. actor (whose character infamously quoted from the Bible in Pulp Fiction) leads an all-black cast in Inspired By: The Bible Experience, a dramatized audio recording of the Bible. The massive project, including 100 celebrities and 1,500 hours of studio recording, is scheduled for release in October 2006. Other distinguished voices in the cast are Denzel Washington, Angela Bassett, Syriana's Jeffrey Wright, and Desperate Housewife regular Alfre Woodard.
The rise of the comic book is one of the big forces in pop culture, with stories from the popular pulp medium leaping to the big screen in Superman, X-Men, Spider-Man, Sin City and many more. Emily Carr Institute has built an exhibition around comic book art, Book Forms, which runs daily until July 30 (1399 Johnson, on Granville Island). Curator Owen Plummer went looking for comic artists and was surprised to find "some of the strongest artists in the city."
